Resilience and Adaptation

The Architectural Association Visiting School Amazon is organising for the fourth consecutive year a workshop in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest open to design and architecture students and professionals in which an experimental floating structure will be designed and constructed in collaboration with Atelier Marko Brajovic and Ecofloat.

Following the programme long-term agenda, the designs will be inspired by the rich biodiversity of the area and will aim to provide solutions to create affordable, resilient, comfortable and beautiful tropical buildings that can adapt and resist the effects of climate change.

The course is a development from last year’s edition, in which the VS Amazon team, composed by Programme Heads Marko Brajovic and Nacho Marti, together with an international group of talented students, was shortlisted for the Climate Challenge award, organised by What Design Can Do. The design submitted by Brajovic and Marti received an award of 5000€ which is making the construction of the floating prototype possible.
